First cleaning of coop, whoa exhausting!!!

Hi, I don't post here a lot mostly read but today I have something to say

I cleaned my girl coop today it's about 15 by 10 ft and I use straw! I be put two whole bails down since Thanksgiving! It was a mud pit so I needed a base! Well, I cleaned it all out today and put new straw in! WHOA, who knew how heavy strAw could be, especially wet, poorly straw! But the girls are so happy now so it was Ll worth it!

My Mood:
Our girls have a raised coop and it stays dry but I know what your saying. We put sand in our run this year and it drains great.

Re: First cleaning of coop, whoa exhausting!!!

It sure does, doesn't it! City cowgirl (me) didn't know straw had stickers in it too! So heavy gloves and some hay hooks are on my list for next time. This past time I wore garden gloves and it still came thru, ouch. I'm in the desert but I put some play sand in the bottom of our coop and I layer the straw on top of that. Never a drainage problem yet!
