new harness seat or booster for a 5yo

ok, we've had some bad luck in the past few months... my mom was mildly rear ended in my car in october, so the insurance replaced ds's nauti with a new one. on new years eve, she was in another accident, and I'm pretty sure my car was totalled, I'm just waiting on the insurance to tell me that.

DS is 5yrs, 3 months, and about 42lbs. we'd been practicing booster training so he can use one at his dads house, and he does pretty well. I'm wondering if I should get another nauti (or a similar combo seat in the same price range ) or go to a dedicated high back booster. currently he is in our cheapy high back that we were using for the booster training in our rental car.

Part of me wants to keep him harnessed forever (heck, if I could have afforded a radian when he hit 35lbs, he'd still be rear facing) but the other part of me knows that at a certain point, a booster is just as safe if it is used correctly

If insurance will replace the Nauti, I'd do that. If not, I'd probably do a booster.

I've kept my 5 yr old in a booster because its easier on me when she can buckle herself. If the insurance is paying I'd get the nauti. Its a good hbb and lbb when the time comes. Also you can keep the cover off the crashed seat so you'd have a spare!

If your going to booster full time in the next 6 months or so I'd just get a dedicated booster. If you plan to harness for another year or more I'd get the nautilus.
