some new research about breast milk bacteria.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0104083103.htm

http://m.ajcn.nutrition.org/lookup/d...jcn.112.037382

This is not ment to make anyone feel bad, its simply some interesting new facts found on a subject that is still very foreign to the scientific community.

What do you think?

Re: some new research about breast milk bacteria.

I think it is great that our bodies have the right bacterial flora to help our babies get the colonies going in their digestive tracts. The better the flora the less our babies will suffer from gas and other issues with GI upset that cause the typical issues in newborns. Add in some probiotics and many babies will not go through what mine go through some of the poop issues.

Re: some new research about breast milk bacteria.

I have Crohn's Disease and really hope that nursing my children may lower their risk of having it (my mom has it also and did not breastfeed me).

Makes sense. The babies I donate my BM to have tummy issues on formula but do well on BM.

Re: some new research about breast milk bacteria.

I didn't bf my son and I wish I had now. He is sick constantly!! I don't know if it would make a difference but it might have!

I think one of the best things that has come from this discovery is that they are finally starting to consider adding some of these benificial bacteria to formula. Which will be amazing for those women that cant BF.

Agreed- this is an awesome finding! How cool to think another benefit of breastmilk is bacteria our babies need. It could really help improving formula too.
