Re: How to tell in-home daycare provider we're leaving?
Thanks ladies! I don't think she'll be mad, just disapointed since she really cares for my kids. I think I feel so guilty because it's my fault that I can't afford to pay her anymore and I'm worried that I'm doing a diservice to my kids since they've learned so much from her.
Oh well, I have to bite the bullet and just do it. I feel better though after hearing your responses. |

Just tell her you're giving your notice.

Just say you've been really happy with the care and you'll miss her. A month should be plenty of time for her to find new kiddos.

Awww, you are so sweet for being concerned. She will understand. I'm sure it is not the first time she has had children leave due to finances, and it won't be the last. A month's notice is great. Plus, if she is as wonderful as you say she probably has a large waiting list.

Re: How to tell in-home daycare provider we're leaving?
I would talk to her at a time when she's not busy (like during drop off or pick ups). Give her a call and say "Hey, can I come by after hours today? I need to discuss something with you."
Then sit down with her, and just be honest. Tell her that financially things are tight and you just can't afford her services. Tell her how much you love her and appreciate her. Tell her that you'd recommend her to anyone who is looking for child care. But right now you have to leave her, and your parents will be taking over the care of your children while you're at work. Tell her that you hope to be able to come back to her sometime in the future. *hugs* God bless!
