Wool balls vs tennis balls

I am washing & drying my new prefolds & tried throwing a few tennis balls in the dryer to help them dry faster.

Anyone else try this? Is it the same effect as a wool dryer ball?

On a side note, I have some left over 100% wool yarn. Anyone know where to find simple directions to make your own wool dryer balls?

Thx!

Don't use tennis balls! They stink so badly. Eww.

Use the link & make your own dryer balls. It is pretty easy.

Re: Wool balls vs tennis balls

I read that tennis balls should not be heated in the dryer because of the rubber.

I have about a dozen dryer balls that I got from retailers but am currently making more because someone gave me a bunch of wool yarn and some of my balls are peeling. I had seen other tuts. that seemed really complicated and I thought "No way!" I found one on One Good Thing by Jillee and was able to make three dryer balls when things were a little calmer this afternoon. LOVE THAT BLOG! Came across it for one reason a few weeks ago and keep going back! I've also pinned a lot of her ideas and implemented a lot already.

If you don't have dryer balls, you can use towels. I have a couple of bath towels that I use just to help my diapers dry quicker.

This. I always throw a towel in there and if I forget I notice a difference.

Re: Wool balls vs tennis balls

I've used tennis balls when drying my down dry clean only comforter. Its the only way I do it, never used it any other way. I do use a towel for diapers.

My stepmom keep 2 tubes of tennis balls by the dryer for blankets and comforters. Nothing else though. I bought a set of wool dryer balls from a mama on etsy and she sent me more than I ordered because she makes them to keep herself busy. But we've had them for almost 2 years and they are holding up great! I personally think wool dryer balls are worth the investment. There are plenty of tutorials like other mamas have pointed out, as well

Do those dryer balls felt up? I'm looking for dryer balls that don't get those little annoying snags on them that end up ALL OVER my mf inserts. If yours are snag free after two years, I'd love to know where you got yours. I'm tired of shaving those darn wool balls!
