Update: she delivered him today. very very very sad.

a friend texting me about some cramping today. So I told her to go to er if she was worried. She is 20/21 weeks. By the time she got there she was bleeding and contracting. So she's laying inclined all night and may get cerclage tomorrow.

Think she'll get to come home at all? Or in until baby boy gets here? Thank goodness she is in a fabulous hospital with top level nicu. It's actually the nicu my ds2 was in after birth. I'm just hoping he makes it at least another 6 weeks. Right now they told her 20% chance of him surviving delivery.

I am no expert but I would say the possibilities are endless. Sometimes they just can't stop labor and sometimes they can. Hopefully they can stop hers. To my knowledge, fetal survival is virtually impossible before around 24 weeks, so if baby survives delivery...the outcome still wouldn't be good. I hope they can get her labor stopped and everything stable so she can go home. Saying a prayer for her now.

I don't think she is going any where. I think they will keep her in the hospital. I hope they stop the bleeding. and baby keeps baking

Re: Friend in ptl

My mom had twins at 24/25 weeks vaginally and only one survived birth. but if course broth baby lived past a few hours and there was no attempt to save the surviving twin in 1981. I hope they can help; at least she is being taken seriously! If she it's going to be in the hospital I would get someone to bring nutritious foods from home instead of the stuff the hospital will serve which doesn't help anyone, imo.

Re: Friend in ptl

I agree with the other gals, your friend is there to stay. That was a great idea to bring her some food. I would also bring her some comfy pjs and something she likes to do (a book to read, her laptop, sewing, knitting etc.) If she can make it at least 4 weeks she has a chance of a surviving baby but it will be a LONG road. My twins were born at 29 weeks and the last 4 weeks were bed rest. They spent 3 months in the NICU. She will need support and possibly counseling. I had PTSD from my experience. Sending prayers for your friend.

Oh no from working in the NICU our Docs wouldn't even try intubating a baby less then 22 weeks. Anything bigger if the parents wanted to they would try.

Re: Friend in ptl

Gah. Being 23 weeks pregnant myself, I can't IMAGINE going through something like this. Definitely saying a prayer for her. The good news is that PTL is SO common, and there are things they can do to try their hardest to make sure baby stays in!
