help!! weird situation w/my kindergartener

She wrote on her homework in pen "i love you, do you love me" to her teacher. I don't know what to do, I feel it is not something she should be asking her teacher but don't know what to tell her. On the other hand she spelled it all correctly all by herself.

Is her teacher male or female? (would that matter to you?) I'd just drop a quick note to the teacher. Little kids have weird ideas of love...

All of my kids have "loved" one or more of their teachers, especially if that teacher has been kind and nurturing, so I think it's pretty normal that she's wondering if she's loved back.

As far as actually writing it on her homework, compliment her on how nicely written the note is but tell her from now on it's not okay to scribble, doodle, or write anything extra unless asked to do so.

I wouldn't be concerned. I was crazy about a lot of my teachers and "loved" them in elementary school. In a mommy/big sister/friend kind of way. Looking back there were a few in high school that touched my life also and one in particular I definitely loved. She was old enough to be my grandma and absolutely wonderful. If it was a 9th grader writing it to a teacher, yes I would say something.

my daughter went through that too. she's in second grade now and still writes notes to her teacher sometimes but not as often as she did when she first learned to spell it in prek- kindy. i wouldn't worry about it.

My guess is that she was excited that she knew how to spell something accurately that made sense, rather than meaning to write it directly to her teacher?
I used to write my brothers name EVERYWHERE when I was little, because I was excited that I knew how to spell it. Come to find out years later, he got in trouble for it

I would leave it be. My dd writes to her teacher frequently often including that she loves her (the teacher). I see nothing wrong or weird about it. Teachers play a big roll in their lives.

My daughter is in kindy and all about "I'm going to marry him" to different boys, and esp her brother. I made the mistake of addressing it, and now she does it for attention. I'd let it go unless it continues more.

I'm genuinely curious about what you think is weird about this? I am not trying to be snarky, sincerely. I'm just rethinking my own actions, because I would not think twice about my son writing that to his teacher, but maybe I should (maybe his teacher would?)? At 6, he has absolutely no idea about romantic love and just knows familial love, so I wouldn't be bothered in the least to hear that he loves his teacher. What is it about the situation that bothers you?

This. I was wondering too. I think it's sweet.
