I never really had a set age, but I kind of thought she'd be done before age 2, and if not, we'd start weaning so she was done around then. My mind has changed as we've approached 2, and I've realized how much she still needs to nurse. Not only is it still a pretty big source of nutrition for her but she also depends on it a great deal for comfort. She nurses when she gets hurt, when she misses her daddy when he's working late or out of town, when she's scared, and she nurses a ton when she is in pain (teething mostly). When she's been sick during this cold season, nursing has been her only source of nutrition for many days. All babies are different, but for my DD, I can't imagine taking nursing away from her anytime soon.

I weaned my last one at 17 months. My decision was partly based on wanting to get pregnant with the next kid...but also greatly influenced by nearly constant plugged ducts/having to fend off mastitis repeatedly. It just felt like time to be done.
