Noah (almost 15 months) has been grinding his front teeth like crazy all the time the last few days. The sound is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I'm also a teeth grinder, know it's bad for you and don't want him to develope a really bad habit from it. I figure it's even worse for him since he had that mouth injury in early December. I've tried tapping his cheeks, near his mouth trying to communicate it's what he's doing with his mouth that he needs to stop (not to physically discipline him), and telling him "NO!" sternly, and telling him that teeth grinding is not good for his teeth and that mommy doesn't like the noise.
What else can I do?

Re: Help, I can't stand it!
My 15 month old does it too. I just ignore it. My older dd did it too and outgrew it with no ill effects. It is definitely an awful noise. Sorry, not much help!
eta....our babies have the same birthday.

Re: Help, I can't stand it!
Yep ignore it. I hate the sound too, but as long as they're getting a reaction they'll keep doing it. The novelty should wear off soon if you stop reacting to it.
And its the Oct 17th club - that's my 5 year old's birthday.

My now 4 year old did this too at about the same age. He out grew it in a few months.

Re: Help, I can't stand it!
Maybe he's just teething because he's growing a new tooth? My daughter does this too. It bothered me at first, but I got used to it.

Re: Help, I can't stand it!
I poked my fingers in his mouth a little while ago because he's been acting like he's teething and sure enough FOUR teeth are popping through at the same time. Explains a lot! Maybe he'll stop grinding when the teeth are in fully. I think it makes sense that he'd start something like that if his mouth hurts.
I've been giving him a dose of Motrin once a day for the past three days because he was acting like he was uncomfortable and I suspected teething. I need to put baltic amber back on him too, we took it off at bath time last night.
