Washing & Lanolizing Wool

If you use a wool wash that contains lanolin (I have Eucalan), do you still lanolize separately? Or is the Lanolin in the wool wash enough to make your wool covers waterproof?

Eucalan doesn't have a high lanolin content, so you will need to lanolize after you wash. There are some wool washes that contain a decent amount of lanolin and some people are able to get away using only it on daytime wool. You could get away with using Eucalan to wash if you followed up with a spray lano on your daytime wool. I would definitely lanolize your night time wool no matter wash you use.

Re: Washing & Lanolizing Wool

I always use a separate lanolin as well.

PP, I'm glad you asked this question. I would have never known to lanolize separately and wonder why in the world my wool was leaking!

I use a spray lanolin after I wash w/ a lanolin containing wool wash for everything except DS's night covers. I do a soaking lanolize for those.
