Skype for International Calls

Has anyone used Skype for international calls? How did it work? Did you like it? Are the calls clear? Thanks for any help you can offer, or if you know any good services for doing international calls especially US to UK or UK to US.

Re: Skype for International Calls

We Skype with England from time to time (computer to computer, so it is free). I have Skype on my iPad, and MIL has it on either her computer or her tablet. I open Skype, and click on her icon, and it calls her. It's clear, and free . We both have to be connected to the Internet, but besides that it works great! I think I can use it from my phone, too, and it runs off of 3G.

We used Skype when we were living in Ireland to communicate with our family back in the US and it worked great. You can't beat free! Video was good, too.

Re: Skype for International Calls

My BFF is living in the Caribbean and has a Skype phone. The call quality is good. We also use regular video Skype and that's fine too.

Re: Skype for International Calls

I have used the video and that is great, except with my completely sure the computer is going to eat her fingers off or blow up in her face Grandmother, she is almost impossible to get on the computer. Basically it has come to a point were someone must be there to start the call in order to get her to use the computer to talk to us. So that is why I am looking at going with the calling plan so I can call her and my almost equally tech phobic MIL I hate to pay for it, but if I can get a super cheap plan it might be helpful for us to keep in touch or have to do business over seas.

DH used to skype home from Deployments all the time. Africa, France, Spain, Portugal... and quite a few other counties all came in great. As long as he had good signal the call was fine.

I'm mobile.... sorry for the typos!

Most military families I know use Skype during deployments.
