We have an appointment with genetics in a couple weeks, DS has an inner ear abnormality that could be linked to a syndrome. Anyone btdt? They said first we meet with a nurse practitioner and it'll be like a routine physical? How long does it usually take to get answers?

We did a chromosomal microarry on DD1. For the bloodwork results it took 4 weeks. That's a more basic form of genetic testing, so probably at least that long.

We had a microarray as well as a couple of "specific" tests completed for kiddo. They told us to expect 6-8 weeks, but we ended up getting 1/2 of the results back in 2 weeks and 1/2 back in 4 weeks.

My son is currently undergoing genetic testing. The first test they did was the microarray and like the PPs said, it took about 3-4 weeks for results. Then, they decided to look further and they ordered a more specific genetic test and that one we are still waiting on - they said it would take 9-12 weeks.

As far as the actual genetics appointment goes, it is sort of like a physical, but more indepth. They really go over the child and their history with a fine-tooth comb. With my son, they saw things I never considered, like the soles of his feet rounded slightly outwards instead of inwards and his nose has a small cleft in it (which I thought was just a cute little trait he had and never considered as a "genetic marker"). The first appointment easily took about 2-3 hours.

Good luck! Genetics testing is a long process but it can provide a lot more answers.

Just thought I'd update the appointment was yesterday. It was very indepth, we were there 4 hours. They didn't see anything right off the bat, but took blood to run a blood test, results take 2-3 months as Harvard is the only place to run this specific type of DNA test. They also sent us for an EKG, they said that really any child who is hard of hearing should have one, which was surprising since DS is 6 and we've been aware of his HOH since birth, that the Drs never mentioned that. So the cardiologist should call me today with those results. I'm glad we're moving forward to atleast hopefully get some answers!
