Shoot. My 4 year old says it hurts when he pees.

I'm guessing a UTI? Man. This is going to be a very expensive medical week for us. He says his junk just hurts when he pees (not all the time)...and he totally peed on our couch last night. I asked him about it tonight and he agreed that he didn't want to go in the bathroom and go cuz it would hurt. Any advise would be appreciated (and I guess the plan is to drag him in to the doc in the am--assuming we can get an appointment. I HATE that our doctor only works until noon on Fridays!)

Is he intact? It could be just his foreskin separating from his glans (the head of his penis) which can be painful for some boys... But yeah, it sounds like a UTI. If it is any consolation, you can call your doc and have them just order a culture at your local hospital/lab, then you just take him in and have him urinate in a cup, they will culture it and your doc will call with the results. Saves you the office visit + lab fee, you just pay the lab fee.

well before running in i would suggest soaking in the tub and tell him to pee in there as it will hurt less. 2 rinsing well could dislodge any dried urine or dirt in the tract.
2 increase his water and give him cranberry juice if he can tolerate it. if its a uti, you dont always need antibiotics. flushing the bladder often helps tremendously and i would give pain meds for a couple days to help with any swelling in urethra. obvioulsy if he cannot pee, go in immediately

We don't have to pay for a visit, just the urine test. You do have to take your child into the office for a test, but they just hand you a cup and have him go in the bathroom, then after his fills the cup, you just wait in the waiting room while they test it.
