Water an issue

I want to switch to cloth diapers, but my husband says no. He says that because we live in the desert in a water-restricted area having the extra laundry associated with cloth is too high an ecological burden. (We do maybe 3 loads of laundry a week on average right now.) He is willing to convert to hybrids, so I'm working on a stash, but I still want to try converting to cloth.
Is the water usage really as much as he thinks?

Something to read up much water it takes to manufacture disposables...I'm no expert on the matter, but I have heard that they use more water per disposable diaper to manufacture them than the water usage is for washing cloth is per diaper. Don't know if its true....

We wash our cloth every 2-3 days, so it adds 2-3 loads of laundry a week.

If you get something like flats and covers they wash super easy and you wouldnt need to do all the extra cycles like other systems.

You could also look into diapers that are the easiest to wash and use the least amount of water. Pockets and all in ones use the kist because you are washing all parts of the diaper with every change. Flats or prefolds will take up a lot less room in your washer and therefore less water since you reuse the cover many times and can hand wash those.
