My 6-1/2month old has two bottom teeth and has been biting! It really hurts and I gasp when she does it and sometimes it startles her enough to pop off, or I break the latch and pop her off and say "No biting!" But idk what else to do she still bites. The only other advice I've been given is to give her a little spank (really??!!) I would never spank or hit or punish a baby like that! Any effective, non-spanking suggestions?

If that's not bad enough.. I have sore preggie nipples! Gah

I don't know what to do about preventing it, but when she bites, smoosh her into your breast. She'll have to let go so that she can breathe through her mouth because your breast is blocking her nose.

Sorry mama, BTDT for sure.

Re: Biting!

I have always heard that you unlatch, say no biting in a firm but gentle voice, then put them down and try again in a few mins.

Re: Biting!

My DD who is almost 7 months old just started doing this about a week ago too. She bites when she is being orny. I just say no firmly then take her off when she looks for my breast again I let her on and if she does it again then so do I. It works because she is such a piggie she cares more to eat then to bite. But my dd only does it when she is cranky she did it before her teeth, but now it hurts more. I know how you feel!

I was taught the smoothing trick to get them to let go but that didn't help me so much because my guy bites quick and fast but doesn't stay clamped lol. And any reaction makes him laugh. My guy thinks the word no is funny (so not looking forward to disciplining him in harder things) but he hates being put down when he hasn't asked for it so I unlatch and set him on the floor. He cries hysterically and then I say "you can't bite mama it hurts me" and he stopped biting after two times of that. Now he only does it lightly every once in a while when he's half sleeping. Which is a huge improvement
