Re: s/o Do you plan to buy your child's first cars?

It depends on how responsible they are when we get to that age, where we live, what kind of public transit options are available, as well as our financial situation. My parents bought me a decent car (to me) and I appreciated it. But I worked 15-20 hours/week plus full time summers, did well in school, was generally responsible, drove my young siblings to school, and lived rurally. I was also involved in lots of after school activities. They bought it as much to save themselves time as anything. I paid my own insurance and gas after the first year as well.

Mine was in 2000 and was a 91 Hyundai excel.

I was given my first car. It was a bit of a lemon. Ford Escort with its own issues hehe.
I plan on getting them a car when of age. That way they can help out with driving errands, as well as get them selves back and forth to work. They will pay for their own gas and probably their part of the insurance for it. As long as grades are good and they are "behaving", they will get a nice used vehicle. If anything changes with attitude or grades, they will have to earn it back and then keep working on it. I refuse to have spoiled, bratty kids!

Hellll no.

That said, I don't ever plan on living anywhere where there isn't a reliable public transport system. On account of I can't drive .

If we can afford it, I would like to buy them a reliable cheap used car. Honestly, I do not want to be a taxi service and would welcome the extra help going to the store ,picking up his brother etc( which would be a stipulation. Not only that, but I would rather them focus on school than have to have a job with so many hours a week to be able to afford one. They would need a job, don't get me wrong. But working enough for gas and insurance is a lot less than paying for a car.
If everything works out right, my older ds would get my old car and I would get a new car, and then when younger ds is of age ( 5.5 years younger) he would either get older ds' car or I would get another new one depending on finances.

Probably not. We do have funds set up for the kids, but I'd rather that go towards college. We may give them a hand me down vehicle or help pay for part of one, but I'd like them to pay most of it with money they earn by working. My first car was a hand me down, but I had to pay for gas etc. When that car crapped out I bought my next car (parents had to sign as I was under 18, but I bought it with my own money from working).

We plan to buy each child a nice but used car. School is their job so we will support them until they can support themselves is my motto. If they aren't responsible with the vehicle then they get privileges revoked. I do expect them to have a part time job to pay for their own gas and help with insurance though.

I can't drive either, well I know how but I don't have a license and refuse to get one. Lol. We might let them use one of our old ones, but other than that they'll need to foot the bill if they want something nicer. Will probably expect them to pay for their own gas to.

Yes we plan to buy each of our children a car that is a few years old when they get their license. I was bought my first two cars (the first one was totaled but I wasn't at fault). Though I do expect my children to all have jobs to pay for gas and possibly help towards insurance.

We will buy or help, and I definitely would not buy an old lemon. I want my children in a safe reliable car that isn't going to be a death trap in the event of an accident (so good modern safety features) or leave them stranded on the highway.

We will not be paying for weddings, etc.

We do plan to pay for college.
