Talk to me about closures for flannel prefolds

I would like to make some flannel prefolds for my upcomming baby. I don't wish to use pin closures, because I'm afread of poking baby...or myself

Anyway, I heard using snappis will not grip well, and rips the fabric on the flannel. Is that true? Is boingos the same concept?

I also have a bit of OBV as well. What closures can I use if I make a couple prefolds with that?

It's true. Snappis and Boingos won't work on flannel. Obv I've been able to snappi.

You can sew some strips of snappiable fabric onto the prefolds where the snappi or boingo will land. Or just pin. But it sounds like you know how to sew since you are making the prefolds, so it shouldn't be too hard to add fabric. Good luck!

So, what kinds of fabric are snappiable?

Terry, knit, jersey, Birdseye, twill (Birdseye and twill are what most common flats and prefolds are made out of) are all snappiable. I've had luck with velour, but most mamas find it difficult.

I only recently found out that flannel is not supposed to be "snappi able". I use flannel receiving blankets as flats, and all mine snappi fine. Occasionally the bottom leg comes loose, but that happens too on my GMD Birdseye cotton flats! I was surprised when I read on here somewhere that flannel could not be snappi'd, because I had been doing it for weeks, lol.

I'm using interlock on the outside of some fitteds I'm making. You could embellish with a strip down the center zone plus a strip along the top. So it makes like a T you know? Added bonus they'd be adorable and you could stick with some cheaper plain flannel with the cuter knit?
