prevacid and infants
my 3 month old son had severe acid reflux, pedi said it's not my milk or any kind of allergy since he has more than double his weight since birth. So anyhow he is on prevacid daily, and it has made life much better for our little man over all. my issue is this, he has horrid gas! it literally smells worse than grown man sometimes, and he only poops every 2 days it seems then it will all come out the 3rd day...and smell like something died. HAs anyone else had this issue with their children on prevacid? he never had this issue til the meds.

Re: prevacid and infants
Our DD3 was on Prevacid from 2mo-23mo and we never had anything like that
was he not gaining before the medication? I am unclear why the doctor would assume that it cannot be an allergy or intolerence just because he is gaining weight. IME that is not always the case. Have you tried eliminating anything from your diet?

Re: prevacid and infants
Both of my babies were on Prevacid for 6+ months, and we never had any issues like that.

Re: prevacid and infants
Did you go to a LC to rule out over-supply and over active letdown?
My son was a great gainer but threw up all the time. It was, we suspected (along with the doctor and a LC's help), related to over active letdown/over supply and overstimulation issue. ETA: Doctor ruled out reflux and felt the risks of reflux meds outweighed the benefits in his case. We used Colic Calm and it really helped Noah!

Re: prevacid and infants
I had mine on Prevacid too and never had those issues. If its an allergy you may want to supplement with similac alimentum-- it's especially for sensitive stomachs and might help/-however you may not want to introduce a bottle or formula if you are EBF. I am not a dr but think that an allergy would also be accompanied by spitting up and you said he seems to be better.
Does he go to day care? It could be possible he picked up a parasite--i would doubt this but you never know. Excessive gas/poo issues is a symptom of giardia but you would prob notice him pooing a lot more then usual. I don't like its a culprit but just wanted to throw it out there |
