Re: RN moms
Quote:
If you want a change of pace try ICU. Your patients are much sicker (is that a word?) but you have so much time to focus on them. I absolutely LOVE my job and wouldn't change anything. I work in a NICU in a busy city hospital we have 2-3 patients at a time, 1 if they are very sick with lots of drips and 2 nurses to 1 patient if they are on ECMO.I was a tech in med-surg and I have no clue how they keep nurses around, that area is rough.

Re: RN moms
Didn't try home care, but I started doing case management last September, and like it pretty well.

I work days on a postpartum floor. We usually start with 6-8( babies count ). Ideally we have three moms three babies and we always get at least one or two admissions and have sone discharges. I would rather wait tables then work med surg

Re: RN moms
I work evenings in a Same Day Surgery unit (prepping for and recovering from ambulatory surgeries). We close every night at 8 pm, so evenings is 1130-2000. I usually have 1-2 patients at a time, but quite often only 1. Maybe a total of 5 patients per shift on a busy night. It's wonderful! Not exactly brain work, but a really nice atmosphere.

Re: RN moms
I work on a general pediatrics floor that also has a PIMCU. On a general basis we have 2-4 patients per nurse. But if it is a PIMCU patient then it is 1:1. I work graveyard shift and it is generally pretty mellow. I like it a lot.
