Re: When in other's homes

Almost always, but sometimes it's more of a formality/habit than an accomplishment.

Around my group of friends, We help clean up at each others houses. Since we each like our things put away in a certain way, this is what we do. The playdate hostess sits by the shelf, and kids bring toys over. The kids are responsible for picking up small lives off the floor. The doctor kit pieces, duplos, puzzle pieces. They put them in the box they belong then bring them to the hostess who plus the box away on the right shelf.

Re: When in other's homes

Depends - some of our close friends have designated playrooms, that look... well like well-loved playrooms look Those houses, no, it's hard enough to get the kids out. Others (like SILs), they ALWAYS clean up what they took out (although, now that I'm thinking about it, SIL never makes nephew pick up anything at our house - including a dumped puzzle and Mr. Potatohead bin... last time, after I picked up the puzzle, I packed them all away in the donation bins, since my kids are too old for them anyway). Guess I'll still continue trying to set a good example.

This is me exactly. I make ds pick up because I want him to learn how to be polite. Most of the playdates we've been on, they have big toy bins that hold everything. Ds' toys are organized into small bins and I don't want them just thrown wherever, so I always decline help cleaning up.

This is me too. I also put up toys like puzzles or games with little pieces before company comes over. I do make my kids clean up at others houses.

I'm gonna have to start doing this. The kids are like little tornados! They empty all the bins and mix everything together. One kid went into ds' closet and started digging through his bins of 'too big' clothes, I assume searching for toys. He just threw ds' clothes all over the floor. I was a little peeved.
