Diaper Pail Stink
My diaper pail stinks. I use a Planetwise liner in a Rubbermaid trash can and was diapers every other day, sometimes everyday. I only put wet diapers in it, dirty diapers go in the laundry room. Lysol is too "perfumey" (if that is a word). Can you put baking soda in the liner? Is there something that works? My 6 year old complains every time I open the lid that it smells awful and she is right. Thanks!

It might be smelling because of the lid being shut. Just don't close it and see how that goes. The dirty diapers need that air to circulate.
DH used to always close the lid and one day I just left it closed for him to see why I like it open. It smelled sooo bad. It filled the whole hall with stink.

Skybaby is right. Lack of oxygen speeds up the change of urea into ammonia. I quit using a liner, which means the lid doesn't fit as tightly, and the bit of air keeps the smell down.
Or, Kissaluvs antibacterial pail liners really do reduce odor.

Thanks! Does the lid need to be all the way open or is just cracking it open enough?

Re: Diaper Pail Stink
Yup. It needs air. I leave the lid off and I don't have stink.

Re: Diaper Pail Stink
Also, I've noticed on wash day, if I wait a while (say a few hours), before putting in the next pail liner in my pail, that some of the residual stink that was in the empty plastic pail will dissipate, and so the whole thing doesn't smell as bad. If I put the next pail liner in immediately, it's like the odors that were in there get stuck, and whole pail is stinky before I've even put diapers in.
