Good wrap for hot weather?

We have a new one joining us in July and I'm in search for a wrap that won't be too hot. I had a Moby with DS, and it's on loan to a friend, but don't think I'll like it in the dead of summer. Is there a wrap that's cooler? Or UV protected? I'm sure we'll walk DS to daycare occasionally, and take trips to the park, so need something comfy, cool, and protected.

Re: Good wrap for hot weather?

With my first, I used a Baby K'tan but, like the Moby, it was too hot in the summer (I live in Texas). Too many layers of heavy fabric. Recently, I've been asking the same question because my second is due in 10 weeks. So a friend of mine who just had her LO recommended the Infantino Sash Mei Tai Carrier. She used a Moby with her first but got frustrated with the super long fabric and all the layers. She LOVES the new Sash Carrier with her newborn.

Re: Good wrap for hot weather?

A thinner cotton woven wrap (like an Ellaroo or Vatanai) or a linen blend wrap will be much cooler and more breathable. Jersey wraps like the Moby are notoriously hot!

Be wary of claims about UV protection though. There were tests done on a big of "UV" fabrics a few years ago (might of been by consumer reports) that pretty much showed that the UV protection factor was nil or much lower than advertised.

For newborns though I like linen ring slings for hot weather

Re: Good wrap for hot weather?

I second the Bal breeze and linen recommendations. I lived in linen and lightweight cotton ring slings when my DD was born in June. I just always made sure she had on a bucket hat and would wrap the tail around any of her exposed skin in the sun.

I use a UV Moby with my two baby-worn summer babies. With K I also had a pouch sling. I didn't get the Moby for the UV protection but rather because I really liked the color.

Ditto! I tried the Moby and the Baby K'tan... both were super hot and I'd given up on baby wearing.
