Seriously SO mad at DD

She peed in her carseat. Of course, this was one of the few occasions where there was nothing under her to protect the seat. ALL the webbing (buckle stalk, bottoms of the straps, and adjustment strap) got soaked. I KNOW if I call radian they're going to give me the CYA answer of "yep, replace it all." But this is getting freaking expensive! My engineer-DH has serious doubts about the saturated-webbing-will-fail party line so he's not on board with replacing it with new...

I know she's still little (2.5 yrs) but Seriously, kid! Just tell us when you need to go pee!

Um I wouldn't replace them. I would wash them with a really wet wash cloth. I'd even run the crotch strap under water. I don't see why you'd be mad at a 2 year old for having an accident. My DH gets upset with ny ds1 and I just don't get it. He's TWO.

Double check with the manufacturer but I would be comfortable with wiping with a wet cloth and using the sun to kill the germs/smell.

ETA: Peeing in the seat is part of the gig. It's going to happen and yes, it's going to suck. Don't turn it in to a power struggle because you will lose. You might have to keep a prefold in the seat for awhile but it's best for the both of you if you accept that it's going to happen and have plans in place for dealing with it.

Re: Seriously SO mad at DD

That nylon webbing has a seriously strong test strength. I really would just wash it all with water, and then let it air dry. My son had reflux really badly and his carseat got saturated with vomit more times than I can count. Pee is way easier to clean up.

I think it's pretty common for babies to have accidents even up to age 8 or 9 (maybe those are outside ages, but still) I wouldn't worry about it. At least she's not carsick and throwing up every time you go in the car....you could have that.

Re: Seriously SO mad at DD

Last week my son (will be 4 in April) fell deep asleep in his seat, in the afternoon at that. When we woke him up, he was like, "Who spilled drink on my lap?"
I was like, "Buddy, did you pee?"
"No, it just on the front."
He was super confused about it, but it was without a doubt, pee. I just took him home, wiped him down and changed his pants, and put baking soda (to soak up the moisture and get rid of any smell) and a couple prefolds on it, because we had to use the seat. I couldn't be mad at him! He's just a little kid, and it was an accident. I mean, I cussed the seat when I was trying to get the dang cover off, and cussed the backup seat trying to install it, but I was mad at the difficulty and the weather, not the kid.

Just wipe the webbing, wash the cover in the washing machine, dry it over an air vent or in front of a fan, and all will be well again. If you're worried about the smell, you could put some baking soda on the straps, let it dry, vacuum it off, then wipe them down with plain water.

I have never understood how urine isn't harmful to the straps but washing is.

No way would I replace either the seat either.

No way would I be mad at a 2.5 year old for having an accident. She is still little accidents happen.

Heck, my kids weren't even potty trained at 2.5yrs.
