Radian broke during install - is it still safe to use.

I have to leave for work right away, so I need a quick answer. I was installing our RXT in my parent's truck and the side support on the seat bottom snapped. This is the piece that can either be up for a smaller baby, or down to make more leg room at the side for bigger kiddos. Now it won't lock in either position and just flops around. Is the seat still safe to use? I don't have time to do anything about it this weekend since I'm headed out of town for work and my parents need to drive DS back to DH (About 3 hours on the highway.)

What do I do? There are no stores in town that sell carseats, so I couldn't buy a new one if I wanted to (which I don't.) It's -10 out and the seat was really cold when I installed it - that's probably why it snapped.

if the seat is flopping around then i would say no it's not safe.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The seat isn't flopping around, just the side leg support on one side. The seat install is rock solid - not going anywhere.

No Walmart to grab a cheap seat until you can call the manufacturer to get their opinion? I wouldn't use it.

I know what piece you are talking about, we have an RXT too. I would say the seat is fine for now, the adjustable seat width piece is for comfort and should not cause the seat to fail in a crash IMO
definitely call the company when you get back into town though, that should be covered under some sort of warranty, I would think it was fine for this weekend, but nothing should break on a $500 car seat

This. Do not use it. It could be considered 'crashed' and unsafe. Borrow from a trusted friend if you have to.

I know what piece you're talking about and I would use it without hesitation. I would also call Diono and let them know what has happened and see what can be done about it.

Unfortunately, he's a 41" tall 1 year old. Walmart (in Canada) doesn't sell anything that will rf him.

Unfortunately, I don't have any friends with kids - they're all child-free professionals...borrowing isn't an option.

I hate to use it, but also don't think the safety has been compromised.

Thanks, I'm going to have to use it and am on the way out the door now. I hope Diono will fix or replace it since it's only 7 months old.

A 41" 1 yr old?! How is that even possible? Are you sure he is actually that tall?
