Green stools - normal or not?

My almost 3 month old has green stools after having yellow poo for the first month and a half of her life. I'm reading mixed things about this online, as to whether it's normal or not. She is EBF. She gets pumped milk when I'm at work.

She is sensitive to dairy, and gets super gassy and fussy when I eat it. She also is tiny and her pedi says she's on the low end for babies in her age group. But DH and I are tiny so I'm not worried about that.

So are green stools ok or should I worry?

Re: Green stools - normal or not?

I took my dd to the Dr around that age green stools sometimes with mucous and a few times with a little blood. I thought for sure she had a dairy allergy but they said bc she wasn't fussy and didnt seem like she was in pain that it was fine and didn't even recommend that I try eliminating anything. I was really surprised but it eventually turned back to yellow as she got older and she was fine.

Another thing I read it could be was a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance so I started feeding her from the same breast multiple times before switching. Like left side then burp then left again then right if she was still hungry then the next feeding start on the right. I think that's how it goes. just making sure she was getting the hindmilk

I would say dairy or foremilk/hind milk issue.

Too much foremilk...try to get LO to nurse longer on one side before switching.

Could it also be the prenatal vitamins I'm taking? Because I will nurse her on one breast 2-3 times in a row. She nurses 15 - 20 mins at a time. Her stools are not frothy or anything.

Also, she gets pumped milk (about 6-8 oz) while I work. It takes me 3 20 minute double pumping sessions to get 8-10 oz.

Too much foremilk seems a bit impossible then, no? Especially if she nurses from the right side all night long, and has the left only 1-2 a day?

I am breastfeeding too and my little one had a couple of green poop with a little mucus too. I thought that it was what I was eating... It went away after 2 days and baby is back to normal (yellowish poop). I only feed out of one breast. Left or right first and then I alternate every 3 hours.

Hmm...there's no mucous but I will call the LC just to make sure. It's a dark green. We do take probiotics daily but it's been dark green for over a month now.

I wonder if she has a gluten or other food allergy. It does not sound like a foremilk/hind milk issue. How much fat do you have in your milk? Maybe your milk is skim? Not a lot of fat.

i think imbalance. not sure on what to do about it. pump for few mins before you nurse so she gets more hindmilk. if you massage while she e3ats might help.
