HWH seat help
I need a new seat for my ds. today I bought "new car"- a 94 escort, lol... anyway, the belts dont lock, so I'd really like a seat with lock offs. i know how to use a locking clip, i just dont like too, lol. ds is almost 5yrs and 4 months, and in december was 42lbs.
fine print- *we had a nautilus that was wrecked, and really liked it. wasnt there a model that had lock offs? * i plan to go to BRU tomorrow to test out, and will probably use the trade in event and get rid of the wrecked seat, so if it is available there, thats great ![]() *my insurance will replace up to $250- i hadnt bought a new one yet because we had no car, so I was just using the HBB we were booster training with. * we had a nauti, like I mentioned, but I would be willing to go back to a "big kid" looking convertible, if one of those would work better. and another request- a cheap HWH seat to buy for my niece who is a year and a half younger than ds and almost the same size, lol. she is riding in the scenera I bought when she was 1, and her shoulders are above the straps. It needs to be cheap though, maybe a maestro? but I think those only go to 50lbs, right? shes pretty tall, and solid, lol. I have something else to trade in to get the discount for her as well. something black, lol, cuz shes a mess pot (said with love ) and her pink scenera is nearly black after 3 years

The Graco Argos 70 is very similar to the Nautilus and has lock offs. That's probably the seat that will meet most of what you want.

Re: HWH seat help
Yeah, HWH seats with lockoffs are pretty limited. I think the Graco Argos is about the only one that's not a convertible.
You might look into the Harmony Defender for your niece, though I don't think it's available at BRU. One more thing, with a car that is nearly 20 years old, you should give some thought to having the seatbelts replaced. They don't last forever, and that's pretty old... |

Re: HWH seat help
On a car-seat.org thread, I heard a ballpark of $100/belt. I have no idea how accurate that is. Kind of steep compared to the price of the car, I'm guessing... I would think that a Ford dealer should be able to give you a pretty good estimate just from a phone call.
We have a 97 vehicle and I'm wondering if/when we should look into replacing the seatbelts on that.

Re: HWH seat help
yeah, unfortunately i cant afford much more than what the car cost, otherwise I would have bought a newer car, lo. I will definitely keep it in mind if the money happens to show up though. my mom wrecked the car I'd only had since june on new years eve, and even though it totaled out, and insurance is paying a lot of it, I'll still owe some toward that loan.
anyway, I went with the nauti again. they didnt have any argos in stock, and i didnt see lock offs on the floor model. I fought the locking clip, but I won, and its in there rock solid. can I tether it without a designated tether point? its a wagon, and I'm almost positive there were cargo tie down points back there. ended up with a trendz fast back for my niece- it was clearanced to 100.90, then I got 25% off, then I applied for a BRU card and got another 10% off, bringing it down to $68 and some change. I'd never heard of it before, so I hope they like it, but its better than an outgrown scenera. I told them if they love me, they'll pay me back with their tax return, lol. it harnesses to 70lbs, and ds still had a good chunk of harness height when I tried him in it, so hopefully it'll work for a while, and now they wont have to buy her a booster either, lol |

Re: HWH seat help
You should be able to get top tethers added at low-cost. I'll look up the info for you when I get a chance, if someone else with a LATCH manual doesn't do that in the mean time..
The FastBack is rumored to be very very very difficult for seatbelt installations, so make sure to give it a try while you can still return it. |

Re: HWH seat help
At least in some Ford models, the cargo tie-downs ARE the top tether anchors. Maybe someone with a LATCH manual can help with that. If it's not designated as one, though, you can't use it.
