OP, I think that's fine! My cousin had a Megan about 2 years before I did, but I didn't care because I had been planning my whole life to use that name. It was their 2nd choice girl name (they already had another DD), plus they live in another state. It's not an issue at all!

We are in the same situation, but with a boy name. We are debating naming our lo Isaac and then we remembered that our nephew's middle name is Isaac. Once we seriously started talking about using Isaac I had dh ask his brother if it was ok, because I didn't want to cause any problems. Without hesitation he said it was ok. I wouldn't be offended if anyone used our kids middle names as first names, but I thought I would ask because (although first names are different) dh and his first cousin have very similar names and i think it is weird.

Also, we have and Evelyn and I love it. We call her Eve or Evie most of the time and think it is a great name. Good luck!

I seem to be in the minority, but I'd ask your niece's parents how they feel about it before I committed to the name... I don't think it would be weird, but I'd want to know it wasn't weird for them, too, IYKWIM.

I think in this case, since it's a middle name, and not a first name, it's not a big deal at all.

If it were a first name, I'd say bad idea.

Even though that it's common, I think it's a lovely name. If we're expecting a third and it happens to be a girl I would name her Jonah Evelyn.
