Washing Prefolds and BumGenius Velcro together?

I just inherited a large stash of cotton and hemp prefolds and a handful of cotton/fleece fitteds. The majority of my stash is BumGenius velcro pockets (also inherited). I'm relatively new to CDs (kiddo's only 2mo old) and I know that BG recommends not laundering their hook and loop closures with any natural fibers. Is this true? Do I really have to wash them separately? If so, should I have a separate diaper pail for the Velcro? Seems like a real pain if that's the case. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
