Cleaning pee?

We have a radian RXT. The cover comes off to wash, right? What about the crotch strap? Can I rinse it or soak it in water without compromising it? Or should I get a replacement strap?

I run into this problem with vomit on a regular basis (DS gets motion sickness) and Diono said I could wipe it, but that's it. Since it's already soaked with vomit, following their guidelines I have to replace it. (I can't though, since it's fairly expensive to get replacements of all the straps and this happens at least a couple times a month.)
