Re: Prenatal depression
I've never heard of it but I believe in it. I think I have had it in all four of my pregnancies. The last two have been the worst. But as soon as the baby is born it goes away. No post partum depression. Only during the pregnancy.

Re: Prenatal depression
I've heard of it, it's especially common if you have had ppd. Pre partum depression, let your doc know and they can get you started on something baby safe.
http://www.med.umich.edu/womensguide/pages/06.html Slightly useless link but it does show that it happens

Re: Prenatal depression
Struggling with this right now. My DH actually thought it was because I don't love him. This is #4 for us and I've never felt like this before. Unless I stay really busy I feel like a huge weight is pushing down on me. And I am supposed to be "taking it easy". It is not at all fun. I have a dr appt in 1 week and if I don't feel better i will be asking him if there is anything that will help. I know I shouldn't feel like this.

Re: Prenatal depression
I was really depressed this last pregnancy. It was bad. That is what scares me the most about getting pregnant again, I don't want to go through that again or put my kids or husband through it again. Luckily it cleared up within two weeks of having the baby.
The worst part is that I tried to talk to my midwife but she blew it off as being "situational" as if that meant it didn't exist. The "situation" was being pregnant and having wonky hormones, though, so I'm not sure why that didn't qualify as being legitimate. Good luck and try to get some help, it's not just in your head.

Heard of it and had it. It is also called antenatal depression. I think a lot of it has to do with hormones. B vitamins and a good fish oil can help. Talk to a naturopath if you can

Re: Prenatal depression
Thanks ladies...makes me feel less crazy to hear about others who are going through or have gone through the same thing...I talked to DH about it...he had some suggestions...if those things don't work I will talk to my OB about it at my next apt. if not before.

Re: Prenatal depression
I'm there too. The HG has just lingered so much this time. I feel like I've lost the will to fight, like I'm not sure why I did this again. I'm going to discuss with my doctor, but I really don't want to add to my current pill supply.

Re: Prenatal depression
I had PPD with both of my older boys, and then prenatal/antenatal depression with this last pregnancy. I didn't know it existed until I was dealing with it. Vit D helped a lot.

Re: Prenatal depression
I had it with both my pregnancies. I actually have it all the time and pregnancy just makes my symptoms so.much.worse. I have to take Zoloft(150mg) during pregnancy to even be able to eat or function. It's just awful and honestly, my biggest reason for not having another.
