I loved this video. If you're impatient, you can scroll to about 1:50 to see that they gave the baby immediately to momma and baby rests on her as they stitch her up. Baby falls asleep with mom while she recovers, it's so sweet.

That is great! I am hopeful for the same kind of birth but I am not sure I am going to get it.

I can't get the video to load, but I saw something similar that they are doing in the UK - they let the contractions push the baby out instead of yerkin' and jerkin', the drape is dropped so mama can watch baby emerge, baby goes right to mom's chest for skin-to-skin and immediate nursing, and doesn't leave mom at all. The baby transitions better because some of the fluid is squeezed out like in a vaginal birth, nursing helps the uterus contract down better, nursing is more successful, etc. I think its awesome, and in the absence of an emergency (obviously) it should be considered as standard practice. The only downfall that I understand there to be is the need for extra staff to facilitate things. Totally worth it IMO!

My doc has offered to drop the drape and to put DS3 on my chest to nurse/skin-to-skin right away. I'm curious about the contraction thing though. I've never gone into labor (induced before both c/s), and am likely scheduling my c/s for 41ish weeks, so I don't think I could do that. And if I did go into labor, I think I'd have a hard time forcing myself to go check in for a c/s. still something to think about, as my biggest hesitation with going straight to a rcs.

That is really lovely. I've got a couple friends who have c-sections, and one said that for her last birth, they barely remembered to call her husband in. She was crying her eyes out by herself, and the baby was pretty much out by the time they remembered to get him. I asked if she had written down her wishes for the birth at all, and she said she didn't know she could for a c-section.

yes, mine was an emergency and not as lovely, but I didn't know that you could have a birth plan for a csection either. I mean, I know you can plan for no eye goop, steroids, etc.. but to know that it could be an option to do it this way is encouraging.
