I think forums like this attrack catfish/trolls is because, generally, parents are easy to reel in. The empathy factor is high.

Singles sites are easy targets too because there are people looking for someone to connect with. Catfish/trolls adopt the persona that their victim is looking for.

I guess I understand that but as a cloth diapering mom with my own crap going on (heehee) I don't see the draw to it. There are definitely some threads that make me a little skeptical. I feel like I someone needs to make up a sob story online for attention they must really be feeling desperate

I think both of these are extremely true. Once you're a parent, you substitute your child into whatever tragedy someone is describing. And singles sites are a money hungry catfish's breeding ground!

That's the thing I drew from the documentary "catfish". The woman, Angela, was drowning in her life. She was shackled by family life and cared for two sn children. She had unrealized dreams of being a painter. The lack of forward movement in her life caused her to act out a fantasy online.

Thoreau said most men lead lives of quiet desperation.

To be honest, it's never even occurred to me to post anything but the truth on an online forum. I guess I'm just that boring!
