Insert for restaurant high chairs?
We're doing BLW with my nearly 7 month old son, and he loves joining us at the table, but we're having a little trouble finding something for him to sit in at restaurants. He's a wiggler, so I'm getting pretty tired of holding him for the entire meal.
We've tried a hook-on high chair for going out, but unless the table is secured to the wall, he bounces so much our drinks spill everywhere. I'd love to be able to use the restaurant high chairs, but after about 10 minutes or so, he usually tries to lean back and ends up slumped in the corner and sort of oozing out the back of the seat. ![]() A rolled-up towel doesn't seem to be enough to take up the space. Those seats are deep for a little guy! Anyone know of an insert or cushion or something that might solve our problem? |

Wouldn't that be nice? I have never seen anything like that before.

Re: Insert for restaurant high chairs?
Yeah, I found the "Leachco Wrap Strap," and I'm going to give that a try, but I'd still rather prop him up than strap him to the high chair. Seems sort of barbaric. :-)

Re: Insert for restaurant high chairs?
I used my shopping cart cover. It has straps and buckles. It's soft and you don't have to worry about a dirty restaurant high-chair either. Hope it helps.

Re: Insert for restaurant high chairs?
Hmm... Now that I'm looking at this from a "strapping him down" perspective, there do seem to be more options. I'm going to have to look into shopping cart/high chair covers. Thanks for the recommendation!

Re: Insert for restaurant high chairs?
What about a booster for a regular chair? Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20
Here's a strap designed to go on a restaurant high chair: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20 And here's a highchair cover with built in strap: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20 It occurs to me that it wouldn't be hard to add velcro straps to a lumbar cushion to secure it to a highchair. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20

Re: Insert for restaurant high chairs?
I've considered a booster. In fact, we bought a "Totseat" which straps to the chair and serves a similar purpose. I think he's still a little wobbly for that, though. He can sit up for a whole meal, as long as he has the handlebars of the high chair to grab onto when he starts to lean. Without those, he starts to tip to the side after a few minutes.
Of course, in a few weeks, this probably won't matter. I think he's pretty close to being able to sit up unassisted for long stretches. |

We use our shopping cart cover but at 7 mo our DS (who was always big and strong) was sitting unassisted in the highchair. The cart cover was thick and covered the whole thing so it seemed to help take up some of the empty space.

Re: Insert for restaurant high chairs?
Well, I tried the "Wrap Strap" yesterday, and it was too short to fit around the high chair. I guess I'll take the advice you guys have listed above and buy a high chair cover!

Re: Insert for restaurant high chairs?
We just brought our bumbo with us and baby sat on the table. We ask for a larger table and each of us each a hand on an ankle.
