Vehicle Options for Family of 8??

Hello!

We are a growing family of 7 now and though we are not sure if we are going to expand once more...my DH brought up the good point of needing a larger vehicle if we do have one more child. We have a chrysler van right now and it seats 7...so we would need something bigger...but what are the options??...are there any thrifty options?? I would love to know what some of you Mamas with larger families do in this case!

Thanks so much!

We have a Suburban for when we all need to go somewhere. When (If?) we have another, I think we'll have to get a full-size van!

When we got married, DH always said that we'd all just cram into his truck, and when we couldn't all fit anymore, we'd just get a school bus.

We have a Honda Odyssey and Pilot. For seating 8 (I have a step-son) we prefer the Pilot.

We sold our 7 passenger Sienna and got a 9 passenger Suburban. We will have 8 come October. Plenty of room and still lots of storage. It's hard to get to the 3rd row, though.

Ill be the odd man. I say if your going to Mac out your seats, go one more up and get a 10/12 passenger van. Kids grow, your gonna need space for things and eventually friends.

My mom has an expedition. We can fit 8 (4 rf car seats) easily enough. They don't make them anymore, but she loved her excursion when she had one. It is just n expedition with extra trunk space (not thrifty on gas though, since it was so big).

Re: Vehicle Options for Family of 8??

If i needed a large amount of space for moving a large family i would get a Nissan NV with no questions. It has significant safety advantages over the traditional gm/ford 12 passanger vans (eg lots of head rests, lap/shoulder belts, etc)..... i have seen two on the road IRL and they are super cool looking (well as far as large vehicles go ).... I prefer sliding doors so i wouldn't want a suburban, but i know a family with 7 kids who drives a 9 passanger suburban and really love it. So its personal preference.

As far as thrifty - i don't think transporting large amounts of people is going to ever be really thrifty. Buy used - that's about it.

My brother has 6 kids under 9. He says the only non-specialty vehicles that will fit all 8 of them is an expedition with 3rd row or suburban. He loves his expeditions, but I'm sure they are anything but thrifty. They did get one this time with a bit more cargo space than is typical.

If we are ever in a position of needing a vehicle that large, we will be getting a Nissan NV!!
