My sports entertainment confession...

I love watching mixed martial arts fighting (MMA fighting) in the octogon ring. I feel guilty that I find this low brow sport entertainig and inspiring. It's not much different from Thai kickboxing which I also enjoying watching. I was the one who dragged my husband to see a kickboxing fight on our honeymoon in Thailand. I am I not a violent person. I don't like watching boxing, and I cringe when football players collide. We're not a sports watching family with the exception of the Super Bowl. DH only watches MMA when I have it up on TV and I won't let DD watch.

I think I can connect (pun intended) with the sport because I did 6 years of karate as an adult. I've attended tournaments. I know how taxing it is to spar for 5 minutes. I finally got to see a MMA fight in person a few weeks ago and the whole experience made me want to take up karate again.

me too! Did you watch the flyweight fight last saturday? Awesome! I did not wan't mighty mouse to win, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I don't judge, Dh watches it too for a similar reason. I will watch some TKD, Judo or Kickboxing if I catch it on TV. We are a TKD family but we don't actively watch TKD (like Olympic TKD) sparring because it is kind of boring to watch. MMA can be fun to watch. We actually actively watch Roller Derby. We went from a zero sport family to watching roller derby every chance we get. We watched MRDA finals online so we could see our guys play. Of course dh and Tharen both skate with our local team so that is part of the reason.

It's recorded on my DVR. I haven't found time to watch it yet.

Have you watched any of the Bellator fights on Spike? It's nice to see the competitors progress through the tournament.

Yeah, tournament and Olympic level sparing is fun to participate in, but boring to watch. It's just not entertainment. Roller derby sounds fun!
