Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

the diapers were bought new and we've been using them for a month and so I don't think the elastic is going

we are using hemp/cotton blend inserts and bamboo/cotton blend inserts with the microfleece pockets. I just took some peachy greens off him with no leaks and it was wet in the front (back was dry). The stripped diapers should be ready to go tomorrow so we shall see if that was the problem (or not)

Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

Your problem is the inserts, not the micro fleece. The micro fleece isn't' supposed to be absorbent its supposed to be stay dry. You need something that absorbs quickly inside your pocket, maybe a try some small microfiber inserts or cotton on top of your blend inserts (new addition closer to the fleece).

Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

Definitely check and see if they are repelling still. I thought I had my new pocket diapers prepped good enough but found they were leaking a lot. I hated pockets at first. When I tested them, I found the water would just bead and run right off. I scrubbed each diaper/insert with Dawn dish soap (I think I had to do that twice) and then they worked great! I strip with Dawn the first of every month just as a precaution and it seems to be just what we need. Good luck!

Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

can anyone recommend a thin cotton insert to put in my pockets as a first layer soaker? Or can I just cut up a microfiber kitchen towel and use that?

Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

Not sure about MF because I never liked the feeling of it. I used ME Sandys liners. Thirsties has a cotton velour doubler. Oh, I saw packs of small 100% cotton rags in the auto section at Wal-Mart. They are small and cheap. Or, get a big pack of the cheap wash clothes. Either of those options is readily available and can be used for cleaning if they don't workout.

Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

Ok, what did I do wrong? I thought I stripped my diapers, but now they are repelling even more! If I wanted to make something waterproof, I definitely did that! Here is what I did:
squirted about 2tsp of blue dawn into plastic tub
added lots of hot tap water
added 12 diapers
swished around for a couple of min
let sit for 6 hours
rinsed each diaper by hand in the sink
put all diapers into the diapers into the wash and did a rinse and spin 3 times, that's when I noticed no more bubbles.
washed on hot/cold cycle with no detergent
dried on low for 30min
and now...
they repel =(
what did I do wrong?

Do the inserts absorb water?

Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

I didn't strip the inserts because they absorbed water right away when I tested them. I only stripped our microfleece pockets.

Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

Ok, out of the diapers that I stripped, I took two of them and scrubbed them with a brush with a couple of drops of blue dawn. I rinsed them by hand and now I'm waiting for them to come out of the washer and dryer. Hope this works!

Re: Help! Microfleece repelling!

Are you just putting water on the fleece to test them?
