Re: Does mama cloth have to have a waterproof backing?

I like fleece backs and dislike PUL. Some people can get by without fleece too (by using a fabric such as courdoroy). One thing to be aware of if you ever do decide to use PUL is that stitching the absorbent layers to the PUL can, for some people, negate its purpose, as a sudden flow will run through the needle holes of the PUL.

Personally, I prefer windpro fleece backs or no backing at all (and just change a little more frequently). Some of the pads I have are backed with regular antipill fleece, and I have bled through them a couple times.

I have some (very old) pads that are all flannel, without backing. They are very absorbent and rarely leak through to my underwear. I wouldn't wear them on heavy days, but for a slow steady flow they work just fine.

Most of mine are fleece backed but some are just cotton/flannel/whatever. I just know my flow and judge which pad to use accordingly.

I love my pul backed pads. You certainly do not have to use pul, but i like to. I have never had an issue with it making it hot.
