Egg allergy...is it the white or the yolk?

I thought that the yolk is where the allergy comes from. I just read in the book, What to expect the first year, and it said that it is the white that causes the allergic reaction.
We have given dd the white because we thought it was the yolk !! No bad reactions but my husband thinks that is wrong. Do you know?

The egg white contains more allergens.

Throw that book away, it's aweful! Seriously though, there are better books. I had that one for my first two kids, it was handy but nothing compared to other sources I've used.. I'm mostly a 'google it' kind of gal now.

My oldest was allergic-- to the whites.
And be aware that the mmr vax is cultured in egg whites so docs will advise against giving it if a baby has an egg white allergy.
Most kids with egg white allergy outgrew it.

Don't feel bad about the mistake! When my ds was a year and a half and got bad excema I was sure it was wheat, and until I had him tested I made him cookies out of oatmeal, applejuice concentrate and eggwhites!

My DD is allergic to Egg Whites. We don't do eggs at all due to you cannot get all the egg whites off the yolks.

That is funny and only funny since she hasn't had a reaction!! That book is not my main source of info. We are in the process of moving and I literally dusted it off as I took it off the book shelf. I hadn't read it since dd was born and thought I would check out the 7 month section for fun and I happened to see the thing about eggs . OOOPPPSSS!!! She is doing fine though.
Thanks Mammas!!!
