The little girl is fine, upset but physically fine.

With this particular child there would be no "explaining" and the Dad knows this. He should have waited until the area cleared. that being said she has NEVER struck out at another child around me. She has harmed herself by falling and flailing but NEVER another child.

Ugh Jen. I suspected, that's why I said the part about waiting in the car - sometimes that really is the only solution and the Dad needs to recognize that . Even so, with the ones that don't appear to get "explaining", just the habit of saying it each time, even if it means they still have to wait in the car, does have some impact on many of even the most severe autistic kids over time. That must have really sucked for everyone, finding out the hard way she is capable of that in the right perfect storm. I'm so glad the little girl is okay.

I got the incident report written and the SPED teacher and I coached the preschool assistant on how to talk to the Mom. With no actual teacher over there we had to talk with her about confidentiality and how to discuss the SPED child with the preschool Mom without violating the SPED child's confidentiality. Ugh...an of course Shannon is out this morning so between classes I am touching base with the office in case the preschooler's Mom calls and wants more information. So much for a quiet day....

Just keep reminding others that teachers are doing way more then just teaching! That is the way it goes now. Shannon got pulled into CO for some meeting.

There is so much more to being a teacher then teaching. It's a huge task.

I'm glad the little girl is ok. I hope it gets sorted out without too much upset.

No doubt Jen. That is why at the end of every year, I always write out a long heartfelt note of gratitude to the kids' teachers so they know how much I appreciate what they do. Ginger's takes considerably more time.

My hat's off to anyone that is a teacher. I couldn't do it. My mom was one, all different levels from preschool to college, and I never did understand how she could do it.

So the house is all clean except for my bedroom, and I will just lock it when Ian's friend comes. I wouldn't care except Ian asked if he could show his friend my room. Um, no. For the same reason I won't tell you how much I weigh. Some things I do not need people on the outside to know.
