I agree. I feel knowing where someone is from helps me understand where someone is coming from in their perspective on life when they post.

My Dh is Mexican. We have very different beliefs on certain things. But we have mutual respect and understanding. Knowing where he is from helps me understand him. Not all Mexicans share all of his beliefs, just as not all Americans share mine. That's the beauty of living in a culturally rich and diverse region.

People have certain stereotypes about people in Oklahoma. It's kind of funny hearing what they think. But I'm sure it helps people make basic judgements about me, which may or may not be true. Doesn't bother me.

I'm a bleeding-heart liberal, was raised in Alabama, and currently live in the DC 'burbs. I have traveled extensively and have countless ex-pat friends. I think my perspective is pretty typical of *my* American friends.

In nursing school we are taught about different cultures and how to perceive different things. Females from certain regions of the world don't like being taken care of by males. People of native American descent usually want their amputated body parts back so they can bury them. Hispanic people have beliefs on hot and cold, and the evil eye making them sick. Knowing this helps me understand people from different cultures. Maybe it's all based on stereotypes but it is helpful.

DH was born in Texas and lived there most of his life. Poor guy thinks everyone in Portland is nuts and can't understand all the Pacific Northwest Attitudes.
