175,000. That would be enough to pay off our mortgage and our student loans and would free up around $1500 monthly.

I'm currently doing a rent-to-own thing with my parents in this house, so enough money to buy the house outright and put the new kitchen addition on it. My kitchen is a postage stamp with a cutout for the deck - the long term plan is to reclaim that space the deck takes up and add it to my kitchen, but that will take $$. So about $150k for the house, and another 40 for the reno - probably a little high, but I know it's goign to be expensive. So right around the ~$200k mark.

I would say a million dollars. For me..I am the only income. I have to take into account all the bills I have (my property tax is 20K a year now) and all my future bills. If I stop working then I have to worry also about how will I take care of myself 20 or 40 years down the road. Plus pay for kids colleges, cars, ect. Not working means not having medical covered...its alot to take into consideration.

20K a year??? Holy moly. I will stop complaining about my nearly 4k in property taxes on a lot that's only a quarter of an acre then.

I think enough money to pay off our house will be fantastic.

We are debt free. So enough to buy DH's way out of the Coast Guard & move us back to Florida (provided his new job lined up).

Re: What Is the Least Amount of Money It Would Take

If we had $130,000 (cash or after taxes) we'd be able to pay off our house and student loans. We need another $20,000 per year for the kids school.

So, 130,000 would make a huge difference for us, but if we got that cash both of us would still be working.

I'd quit my job if we won 10 million.

about $20K would do it for us. Not including the house.
