Re: What was the thriftiest decision or change your family made?
This too. Changing our wants. And it definitely helps to not watch TV/commercials. When our kids get to Christmas, they have very simple, achievable gift ideas rather than wanting every squeaking sqwaking thing they've had marketed to them on kids shows ad nauseum.

Re: What was the thriftiest decision or change your family made?
The single thriftiest thing is couponing. It's not just specifically the coupons themselves, but the whole strategic shopping concept. It has forced me to really pay attention to how to get the best deal. Of course the coupons themselves are great too...I go free grapefruit last week by combining the grapefruit coupon with the sale on it.
And tied with that is DH learning to do our car repairs himself.

Single thriftest thing? Selling the "newer" car with a year of payments left and becoming a one car family. This works for us because we live walking distance from dh's work and I'm a SAHM. There are days that I tell him to take the car because I know I won't be tempted to go out shopping if I gave to walk!
Other things that helps- doing cash only (no Cc), talking about our finances every paycheck so we are both on the same page, and meal planning for two weeks at a time. Its the little things that really adds up.

Definitely meal planning and buying used. I also shop the clearance racks year-round for clothing in the next season/size up. I rarely pay more than 50% of retail for clothing and I never "need" something right now (which always is more expensive).

Re: What was the thriftiest decision or change your family made?
Being content with what we have and very thankful for what we are given. This has allowed us to never want more and feel extremely blessed for what we are given. Oh and totally use it up, wear it out and if possible do with out

Re: What was the thriftiest decision or change your family made?
We have started clearing out our clutter, and selling it on CL or ebay. I have made a TON of $$ without really trying all that hard.
I also agree with meal planning....it saves SO much money!
