Our Grandmothers used Lard Soap?
I know my Great Grandmother used her own hand-made lard soap bars to then make laundry detergent that supposedly got everything super white.
My Auntie lost the recipe. My Grandma used cloth diapers and despised them back in the 50s and just about fainted with joy when disposables were invented. I've read somewhere online recently that lard even cures diaper rash. Now, I'm not a vegetarian, but lard is not my favorite thing. Or, maybe it should be? Human beings used to do what? Soap is made from fat and a basic (vs acidic) chemical. Typically lye (sodium hydroxide@) and fat were mixed together to make soap. I think this is the basis of Castile soap , but it's made with olive or other plant based oil.

Re: Our Grandmothers used Lard Soap?
We use lard and lye soap as our family's only body soap. It makes our skin feel like we bathed in lotion! My sister bought me a bar as a gag gift because she knows I'm into "natural" stuff, and we loved it so much that I found a cheap source and it is all we use now!

Re: Our Grandmothers used Lard Soap?
I love the castor oil/olive oil mix that I use for face wash. The castor oil draws out the dirt and the olive oil moisturizes. Maybe there's more uses for it?

I thought all the lard was chemically changed to soap, not fat, in the soap making process?
