Re: S/O why only blue dawn for stripping?

The original Blue Dawn probably changes its formulation the least often, and is easy to explain and express.

It contains cleaners made from petroleum byproducts and other non-naturals ... stuff that seriously, seriously works to degrease.

I'm extremely sensitive to it - if I wash dishes with it I get what looks like chemical burns up my inner arms, and it provokes my asthma. HOWEVER ... I do find that my natural dish soaps don't quite do the job as well. So we have a bottle around, and when I run into a big problem (a nasty microfiber diaper off FSOT) I'll put a drop or two in the washer (seriously, no more than that due to suds) ... and then run.

Because that is what the DS laundry gods told me to do and they have never steered me wrong in my diaper laundry saga.

I haven't stripped diapers, but use seventh generation dish soap when stripping wool because that is what we have for dishes. No unicorn tears, but still does the job.

I don't know, but I stripped the dipes with Dawn for the first time recently and it took 6! FULL wash cycles to get rid of suds. Never, ever again.

Is there a "magical" amount of blue dawn that works without being too much or too little? For example for a non-he top loader would a tablespoon be too much or not enough?

I've mostly heard 1 teaspoon. You'd be rinsing for a week with a tablespoon.

It really depends on how hard your water is and other factors. Some just use a few drops and others use a tsp. You'd just have to see what works for you.
