Singing telegram HELP!! Updated again :)

I need etiquette help! What do you do when they are done singing? What are you supposed to do when they are singing? Do you tip them? I am so very easily embarrassed by this kind of stuff, and I never know what to do !

Last year DH sent me a group of male singers from his school (apparently they are cheaper than a dozen roses, because they do it as a fund raiser for their choral group ) and these very talented men sang love songs on our front porch, while I chased my boys around trying to appreciate the gesture while dying of embarrassment. I was totally caught off guard and they came during bed time so I was right in the middle of pj's and teeth brushing. DH was at class and I literally wanted to shut the door and pretend they weren't out there . When they were done they handed me a rose and I thanked them, but I feel like I should have done more, like tip or something?!?

Today, I overheard him on the phone telling his friend that he did it again . I told him last time that I was caught off guard and while they were very good I didn't enjoy it because the kids were crazy and felt like a card would be so much better. I'm already embarrassed and freaked out . At least I can brush my hair this time, right?

Tell me how I should handle this with 4 little boys going crazy? Should I make the older ones stand at the door at least so they have an audience, while I keep my SN one from running? WWYD? Would it be totally wrong to call them up and send them to a different address???

Oh man. I have no idea. I don't think a tip is necessary since they already got paid. And bc they've been paid I wouldn't feel bad about not listening intently.

And if it was a crazy time I'd be tempted to shut the door on them.

But I kinda think the craziness would be entertaining... Maybe you could video it?

Re: Singing telegram HELP!!

You know most the time I bemoan not having a video camera, but in this circumstance I'm kind of glad!

I'm thinking about posting a note on the door, "Please sing, we're listening, but we are all unwell "

It's almost true, DS 1 has a cough, and it could get worse!

You dont' need to worry about anything. Your behavior, your kids, definitely not tipping. Just tell them thank you, and go about your day.

Re: Singing telegram HELP!!

My ensemble group did that one year. No one ever even tried to tip us. It would have been weird, IMHO. We probably wouldn't have been allowed to accept it, either.

Re: Singing telegram HELP!!

I would probably be totally embarrassed too, but that sounds awesome (okay, maybe not the chasing after kids and stuff part)! But, I've never actually seen anyone get a singing telegram IRL, only in movies and stuff. Definitely a creative v-day gift

Re: Singing telegram HELP!! Update :)

UPDATE: DH punk'd me ... He put a v-day card in the mail box on his way to class and when I opened it said, "Thought I would make your day super special and let you know I will never, ever send you another singing telegram. There's a box of chocolates hidden in the house!" So right now the boys and I are on a chocolate hunt!! Apparently he wanted to see me do this one last time and keep me busy.

I can't believe how relieved I am!!

Yeah,, I'm not one to have 6 men singing love songs to me LOL. Now if DH wanted to sing that would be totally awesome <3 ! But I just totally felt weird and awkward when it happened last year LOL! I can honestly say that was the worst v-day gift ever :/.
