Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?

I set notifications on slickdeals. so anytime someone posts a thread about something i'm looking for, I get an email. Right now I have notifications for laser printer and macbook coming in.

I'm also doing swagbucks to save up for those 2 things.

Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?

We buy lots of refurbs so we can buy what we want quality wise. We have killer Klipsch Noise canceling Headphones That I saved more than I paid just by buying it refurbished. We also buy really nice or more than we need computer wise so they will last longer. DH builds his desktop and used it for 5 years and just now upgraded partially and will probably use that another 5 or so years. I bought a floor model top of the line lap top and will probably get 5 or 6 years out of it because I am not as demanding of my computer as DH is. Overall, our idea of thrifty electronics is to buy very nice so they don't have to be replaced as often.

Cowboom is a Best Buy store that I've used in the past. I got my Flip video camera there for $40 a few years ago.

That is how we bought our tv in our living room. It was an LED flatscreen that was on the wall for like 2 weeks...we got one heck of a deal!

ETA: We bought it at Best Buy...where we buy all of our electronics

My Kindle Fire was my Valentine's Day gift last year. We don't give each other Christmas presents & buy bigger stuff in February with our tax refund.

Our cells were cheap from upgrades.

The big TV is several years old from Sam's Club. We bought one back in '06 or '07 with our tax refund. It stopped working & we were able to take it back to Sam's Club & get a new upgraded one for cheaper. The newish one is still going strong.

Our desktop was a gift from my brother when he got his laptop.

So, basically tax refunds & gifts

This is us too! We were just joking that next year's return is buying a new lap top, lol.

Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?

Our desktop is an old computer from my work that they were getting rid of.
The HP laptop I'm on was $75 on craigslist. We had to put the OS on it but had that.
I have a $300 netbook from 4yrs ago that still works fine.

Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?

I don't buy a ton of stuff, but when I do it's important to do a lot of research. It totally depends on the type of item I need. Certain things like printers I can easily find for free on freecycle or free craigslist. Some cheaper electronics I'll buy on craigslist (but I'm suuuper wary knowing that there's no warranty or that it's possibly stolen). Online I usually check out ebay, amazon, and slick deals. It really depends on the type of item though.
