Question Best inserts with Flip Covers?

I would like to try out the Flip system in addition to other diapers I have for my newborn coming soon. I already have 2 doz orange GMD PFs, 2 doz yellow GMD PFs, and 1 doz LL medium PFs, and I'm wondering how any of those might fit into the Flip Covers? Would they be bulky? I also have some gDiaper disposable inserts, and I wonder if those would fit? Should I try some stay-dry inserts and organic inserts too? Maybe get one small pack of each and see what works best? Or is there another option that is better, like flour sack towels, etc? Let me know what you've tried with a newborn as well as an older baby, and what worked best for you.

Re: Best inserts with Flip Covers?

Your prefolds will work great with the Flip covers. So will the gdiaper inserts. The Flip inserts are also very good, but since you already have so many prefolds, I wouldn't bother with the organics as they are pretty much prefolds. The stay-dry might be nice to have for a stay-dry option.

I've used the flip stay dry inserts in the past. They're nice and trim, but this time around I'm using prefolds and I like it much better

You are good to go on Flip inserts small prefolds fit the smallest rise setting, mediums fit the unsnapped/largest rise setting, and either one will work on the middle setting. I think the grefills should be fine too!

prefolds will fit great in a flip cover, but a flip cover will not likely fit great on a newborn. unless your baby is planned to be 10lbs or more, OS covers will not work.

Good Luck!

Re: Best inserts with Flip Covers?

Thanks everyone! I'm excited to try them!

Pixi - I was thinking more like using the Flips after 3-5 weeks when baby is still a "newborn", but bigger. My DD1 was 8lbs 13oz, and within four weeks she was already 11lbs, so I don't expect to have a tiny baby this time either.

I find prefolds pretty bulky in my flips. I use them for naps, but that's about it. Mostly I use either Joey Bunz Babykicks hemp or WAHM made zorb inserts from etsy. Both are trim and absorbent. Prefolds do work great and are really low maintenance, but I prefer the other options for trimness.

Try out your prefolds. I use prefolds in my flips exclusively during the day, at night, I use Thirsties hemp prefolds or flip organic inserts.

I didn't start using flips until my dd was 20 mos, but I really like the organic inserts (now they are called the night time ones). They are super absorbant. When we travel the Grovia biodegradeable inserts are awesome!
