When Tide stops working.....now what?
Hi ladies, I am a Tide user. I loved it for a while. I tried the F&G but it made so many suds that I switched to Tide HE original scent. Then I got barn smell so I started adding washing soda. That worked great for a month or two but now, barnyard smell came back and the Tide scent is starting to become overpowering.
I have slightly hard water. My wash cycle is warm delicate wash, Heavy wash with detergent and then another wash with a fast rinse. (sometimes I do extra washes if I feel that they are needed) The diapers look clean, they just smell like barnyard some of the time. I did an RLR strip and that actually made the smell worse/more chemical. Its not terrible, I just want to nip it in the bud. I do bleach every so often but I just want a wash routine that works. I started using some of those BG detergent samples that they send with each order. That seems to be working but I have read mixed things about it. Apparently it is the same as country save? I want a detergent that I can find locally or order with free shipping. I also need a detergent that won't react badly if I wash with something else from time to time. So what do you use when the 'magic' Tide stops working?

I used Tide and Gain for years and finally switched to Country save with great results so far. I havent even needed any bleach and I need way less rinsing! And diapers smell clean and like pee only when peed on.
I use flats pockets and pfs and have an HE FL. And our water is moderate but with lots of minerals.

How much detergent are you using? Smells usually mean you're not using enough.

My favorite detergent is Tiny Bubbles, BTW.

I used Tide F&G but switched to Crunchy Clean Hard Water formula back in September. It works amazingly & I don't have to do the extra rinses. I rinse cold, hot wash/ cold rinse & done! Easy peasy. I am still on my first bag from the starter pack.

Re: When Tide stops working.....now what?
Tide and All F&C w/oxyactive (similar ingredients to Tide) quit working for us. We switched to Country Save with a vinegar rinse and it has been really great. I noticed significantly less odors on PUL covers vs with mainstream detergents and it rinses out super easy. Everything is soft and fluffy. I just now am coming to the end of the small box that I bought for $10 in early December, after using it on ALL our laundry for a family of 7. Seriously that is impressive. I buy mine (and their oxygen bleach) from a local grocery store. I'm buying the big box next time because we love it so much.

Re: When Tide stops working.....now what?
Tide has always been a total nightmare for us. I really didn't want to try Country Save, thinking "I'm not THAT crunchy", and I don't like powders. But ... WOW!
I have found Country Save all over the country, in health food stores, even in small towns. Here in Portland it's available at our bigger grocery stores but I think that's unusual. FWIW it's not like several cloth-specific detergents that are soap based, it's a true detergent with many of the special ingredients that Tide has ... but it's free of all the crazy chemical additives that come from petroleum and stick to your diapers. If you do have to get it from Amazon, one box will last a VERY long time. You don't end up having to keep increasing your detergent like with Tide. It's likely you really will get 80 loads in a top loader, 160 in an HE.
