Spotting at 36 weeks

I checked my tp this morning and there was a little bit of blood on it. I also spotted a couple of times last night too. I have not dtd in forever or done anything strenous. Has anyone spotted for no reason this late or should I call my doctor. I really, really don't want an internal and if I call him I know he'll give me one. DH is freaking out and telling me to stay still, lol. What do you guys think I should do. I feel like going and cleaning everything, lol.

Re: Spotting at 36 weeks

sounds to me like your cervix is changing...labor could be pending your 36 wks and that is pretty safe time frame to have a baby...as long as you aren't gushing blood i would think you are pretty safe...but go with your gut...if it doesn't feel right than call the dr! maybe it's baby day! good luck!

I agree with everything the pp said. It is likely your cervix changing and if you feel fine just hang out. If you feel like you should call the Dr., do so.

Re: Spotting at 36 weeks

i started spotting at 36 w 1 d, and my son was born 36 w 2 days! only after my water broke was i like, "oh duh, i should have seen this coming".

so you may be preparing to go into labor, or like the previous poster said, your cervix could just be beginning to dilate. good luck mama

Have fun, but don't do too much because if labor is around the corner you are going to need that energy. mama. I'm excited for you.

I'm going to clean in spurts in order not to overdue it. I just got the kitchen clean, just need to mop and am boiling water for some tea. I also plan to cuddle ds like crazy.

Re: Spotting at 36 weeks

I am usually one to avoid medical intervention as much as possible, but in this case, if you haven't had an ultrasound this pregnancy, it would be a good idea to let your doctor know about the spotting. Most doctors will not do a pelvic/cervical exam if there's any bleeding--but they will do an ultrasound to check the position of the placenta. Bleeding/spotting in the third trimester can indicate that the placenta is too low or even covering the cervix, and it can prevent a lot of problems at delivery to know that before going into it labor. However, if you've had an ultrasound before and your placenta was in a good spot (not too low), then it couldn't possibly be that and it probably just is a sign of cervical change!!
Sorry, don't mean to be the lone dissenter but after recently experiencing bleeding at 32 weeks (but it was a large amount, not just spotting) due to a low-lying placenta, I did more reading about it and this is some of the info I gleaned.
Best wishes with your labor and birth!
Kristin
