Making base+liner mama cloth with prefolds?

I am having baby #2 in August, and want to make my own pp mama cloth. I want to use prefolds for the heaviest flow, but I don't want to cut them or sew them up just to use them for a short period of time!
I have seen designs for base + liner mama cloth, and I think I like that idea best. I might try some pocket insert type pads too. Either way, I want the prefold to be in tact at the end of all this. I could probably just lay the prefold in my undies but I don't want to deal with them sliding around at night because I toss and turn all night.

I am pretty new to sewing, but I think this will be fun to try. Any tips for making this type of mama cloth?

Premie prefolds?

I can't even think about using any larger prefold intact, it would be so bulky.

That site can help with some patterns.

Thanks!

I figured I would use premie prefolds or the gerber ones that aren't very thick.
